Nathaniel Foley's Exhibition Opening

I met Mr. Nathaniel Foley on my visits to the University of Indianapolis including at one of his “Riveting Workshops” where I got to learn how to rivet! (It was as riveting as marketed). Mr. Foley uses the riveting in his sculptural work, and I look forward to attending his exhibition this fall/winter! The time and date linked are for the official opening, though I’m sure it will be open for an extended period of weeks if you are unable to attend the opening.

Manchester High School's AP Student Art Showcase

Manchester High School’s AP Art students proudly present… their AP Art Showcase!

Students (including me!) will set up their portfolios for display and possible sale in the commons of the high school for the community and visiting family and friends to view!

I look forward to displaying my “Fudged Up Fairy Tales” portfolio at the event, and can assure you viewing it in person is far more interesting than the photos (soon to be) on its portfolio page on this website. I am unsure as of now if they will be for sale, as I have grown quite attached to them.

NMPL Homeschool Art Workshop: Cereal Box Busts

Participants will coat their bust in a weathering gray and add texture with sponges and brushes to give a rustic look to the "ancient sculptures". Students can use extra details such as moss, vines, and flowers to help contextualize their portrait bust as a relic of the past. Practical application involves observational skills and translating them into a product resembling their unique features.

Manchester High School “Crate Week”

I had the priveledge of leading a seventh period ceramics class in what I called a “Crate Week” to prove the concept of my business pitch for 2024’s Innovate WithIN pitch competition. If you have any questions regarding the idea beyond “What is the basic premis?” (It’s a Collaborative, Recreational, Artistic Thrifting Experience that combines aspects of Goodwill and Makerspaces into an environmental artist rec center) I’d love to answer them via email!

Scholastic Art and Writing Exhibition

"This year, Manchester High School students performed extremely well at the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards- Fort Wayne Region.  Regions across the country come together for the oldest and most prestigious art awards program for high school students in the United States.  Truman Capote, Slyvia Plath, and Robert Indiana are former Scholastic Art and Writing winners.  Students participate in professional level exhibitions and are eligible to win scholarship money.  This year, the Fort Wayne region had 1,694 entries.  Only 10-20 percent of students entered take home awards, and this year,” I won a Gold Portfolio Key for my portfolio “Fudged Up Fairy Tales”and an individual Honorable Mention for the piece “Rapunzel” from the collection.

The 15th Annual High School Art Exhibit features 125 works by area 9-12 grade students from 12 different high schools, as well as home school students.” And I made one of those pieces this year: “Girl In Red” A large colored pencil portrait on corrugated cardboard. The piece itself took roughly a week to create, and is by far the largest colored pencil project I have completed to date.

Mythical Flyers: NMPL Between Workshop

“Everyone has made a paper airplane, but have they made a flying pegasus out of cardboard? A flying dragon? At this installment of cereal box crafts, Josh Steely will guide the Betweens through creating their own mythical flying creature, with a little friendly competition thrown in there too!”

After some testing, making cardboard fly may be a bit tougher than expected - but that sure won’t stop us from having fun trying!

“Have you ever wanted to build your own unicorn or dragon out of a cereal box? Try out Joshua Steely’s “Mythical Creatures for Kids” workshop! Using simple shapes and household supplies, this is a craft you could repeat later on your own. Follow the instruction from a practiced creator to learn the simple methods need to create your own mythical pal!”

I’m hoping to teach kids the slot method that works far better with cereal boxes than with paper. Hopefully inspiring them to make more fun 3d toys at home themselves!
