IWU Scholarship Application Portfolio
This portfolio was for a Scholarship Application for Indiana Wesleyan University.
I really tried to show that I have experience in a wide variety of mediums and stuff… (hence the lack of continuity).
This is a display I made for some antique calipers. Sure, it’s not the most gorgeous thing, and would hardly be considered standard “art” but I believe a large majority of art is aesthetic problem solving. This is a great example of my experience in such processes.
These are a couple process, and a couple final photos of work from my “Fudged Up Fairy Tales” Portfolio, which you can read more about on its individual page.
This is a piece titled “Cinderella” from my “Fudged Up Fairy Tales” Portfolio. I included this piece separately because I felt it uniquely demonstrated my ability to use abjects other than cardboard to enhance the use of cardboard, rather than replace it.
This is a beanstalk growing out of a book and through a cloud. Originally inspired by my “Fudged Up Fairy Tales” Portfolio, but not included in the final collection due to its lack of deeper intent. I really just wanted to make a pretty book beanstalk.
This was a super fun style I explored for a little bit with some animals, really attempting to use a brownscale monochromatic style with alcohol markers and different shades of cereal boxes.
These were some attempts to learn cartoon-ish hands and faces.
This was a project in my intro to 3d class my Sophomore year of highschool, and it shows how I can “Sketch in 3d” and visualize a larger product quickly.
I painted a Mural based off of some of my of art supplies I’ve used for years, spelling “Creativity” and I wrote about the process a bit in a blog post.
I drew someone’s house and gave it to them. Quality experience. I wrote about it. I would love to do it again and draw better.
This was a really cool photo from Chicago I took.
The best museum experience I have ever had was when I just got to draw this pig for a couple hours and an artist came over and talked to me about it. (I wrote about it)
I drew my Mom to show some observational portrait drawing skills… (my proportions are still off. I should do it more often).
Cube mural, of the 8x8 pixels that make up my Minecraft character’s face
By far the biggest colored pencil work I have ever completed… and it was on corrugated cardboard, making it extra fun.
I’ve made over a hundred of these… so I thought they were significant enough to add to the portfolio application.
Sculpted a shoe house (and wrote about it) It currently resides at the North Manchester Public Library.
UIndy hosted a lovely “Riveting” workshop, both in the exciting sense and the sense that I… learned how to rivet.
It’s a knife vest… what else is there to say
My Mom said Oscar the Grouch was one of her favorite muppet, so I made this super cute version.
I did sculpt this mask for my brother and it worked really well… he wears it sometimes… I’m glad it fits.
A really fun commission that ended up looking SPOT ON for Bluey and (I don’t even remember the second one’s name. I never watched it).
This was a lesson from the IWU art camp on how having something light against a dark background makes it look lighter, and a dark on light darker.
Forkliffffftttt. (I wrote about it in a blog post.)
To that date, this was the most complicated figurine I’d ever made. I even did a full-on model before painting anything so that I knew what would go where and how to connect the stuff.
